Cobs Chicago Mix

Chicago is being honored with a new flavor, developed by Cobs Popcorn. The flavor is a blend of sweet, buttery caramel and extra tasty cheddar cheese popcorn.

The caramel popcorn is created with raw and brown sugar mixed together with brown rice syrup, fresh butter, and a splash of pure vanilla to add a sweet, creamy taste.

The cheddar cheese flavor is created with a special cheddar cheese recipe—designed to provide a big cheese taste for the serious cheese lover.

Cardboard Box Popcorn Dispenser

A fourth-grade teacher assigned her students an interesting project: build something interactive out of cardboard, recycled materials, and things they had around their house.

The students created such unique and varied projects as a Ferris Wheel, a marble run, a ring toss, an M&M dispenser, and a diesel locomotive.

Some students designed a popcorn dispenser that looked like a popcorn maker. They created a funnel and when someone pushed the funnel up, the popcorn came out.

Incredible projects from some very talented students.

From Tornado Survivor to Popcorn Shop Owner

On May 22, 2011, Mary Raley, living in Joplin, Missouri, was caught in a nightmare. That afternoon an E-5 tornado ripped through the city, killing 158 people, and injuring dozens more. Mary was one of those severely injured.

She was attempting to drive home when the tornado struck. She was sucked out of her car and thrown a block, a two-by-four piece of wood stuck in her back. She had five surgeries on her back and plastic surgery on her face. Quite a life-changing

But life took a happy turn for Mary. She met and married Kyle Raley, an Ottawa native, three years after the tornado.  At the six-year anniversary of the tornado, she is opening her new business in Ottawa: Maggie’s Popcorn & Nuts. The shop sells gourmet popcorn and nuts, old-fashioned candy, salt water taffy, and old-fashioned dipping ice cream.

Unlike other stores that make their stuff in the back, at Maggie’s Popcorn & Nuts the customers can watch their order being made. The popcorn and nuts are made fresh daily. They also have lots of different flavors of popcorn: cinnamon, cheddar, cookies and cream, peanut butter and jelly, even dill pickles.

Congratulations to a lady who doesn’t let the problems of life get her down.
